Title:
grub does not install during install (manual pratitioning) of Quantal
  Alpha 3

Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I was carrying out this test: http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/226/builds/19358/testcases/1302/results/ on my PC this is my hardware: http://wiki.ubuntu-it.org/CarlaSella/lshw and this is the iso image I was testing: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/20120724.2/quantal-desktop-amd64.iso.
During install my hard drive was detected as /dev/sde instead of /dev/sda and this was already reported in bug #1022726, I do not know if the two bugs are related.
At the end of the installation process I got an error message saying "Unable to install grub on /dev/sde see attached image1 and image2.
I was asked what to do, so first I tried to input /dev/sda instead of /dev/sde, but got the same error see image3 then I tried to input /dev/sde again but got the same error and finaly I tried to input /dev/sde1 (image4), but I could not get grub installed.
So I chose to continue without bootloader install and rebooted my PC.
On reboot I found the prevoius grub bootloader and could start the other version of linux on the /dev/sda1 partition of my PC, but on /dev/sda5, the partition where I chose to install Quantal Alpha3, I am not able to boot unless I modify grub by hand.
