Title:
Can't mount quantal install disk on EeePC900 when external USB drive
  present

Status in “debian-installer” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I've copied the latest alternate iso to an SD card using DD. Then I
booted from it on my EeePC900.

I had my external USB 80GB drive plugged in, because I was going to
  install to it.

I wanted to check the integrity of the disk and chose that option.

After "looking for hardware", the procedure failed with the following
  message:

(process:318): mounting /dev/sdc2 on /crdrom failed: Invalid argument

I've done this particular series of steps many times in the past, and
  the verification has proceeded normally.

Once the procedure has failed, I can't use ctrl-alt-del to restart,
but have to remove the battery and the external DC supply.

If I remove the external USB drive, verification works.

If I then plug the external drive in again, and try to install, the
  same thing happens.

As I do my test installs on the external drive, this means I can't
  install.
