[Bug 1023724] Re: Elementary OS Jupiter Installer failed to install its bootloader (GRUB) to any available drive/partition

Thank you for your quick reply.

The install process seems to have responded to the GRUB problem by
deleting all data of Elementary from the external HDD. Also, I found out
that I no longer have a functional bootloader for windows. (This means I
can't boot into windows right now).

So:

If I try once more to install Elementary, I will follow the process you
laid out in your reply.

I am going to use my Vista install CD to try to restore the Windows
bootloader.

Title:
Elementary OS Jupiter Installer failed to install its bootloader
  (GRUB) to any available drive/partition

Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I used the graphical installer provided with the x64 flavor of the
Elementaery OS Jupiter liveCD. I tried to install Jupiter to an
external HDD, which seemed to go well untill it was time to install
the bootloader at the last step of the installation. At that point, I
was notified that GRUB failed to install, and was prompted to choose
another location, but all drives, in addition to all partitions
existing on those drives, yielded the same failure to install.

I will likely not be able to boot Elementary.

(I am a novice user to Ubuntu/Elementary, so I cannot answer extremely
advanced questions. I am willing to help all I can, though.)

Note: I found no 'syslog' in /var/log.
