a possible duplicate of this bug is this:

I'm not sure enough to add it as duplicate maybe someone else can add it if he/she is sure.

Title:
  btrfs, core.img too large

Status in “grub2” package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: grub2

  Hi,

  grub-install /dev/sda
  gives:
/usr/sbin/grub-setup: Warnung: Your core.img is unusually large. It won't fit in the embedding area.
/usr/sbin/grub-setup: Fehler: Einbettung ist nicht möglich, jedoch erforderlich, weil auf meheren Platten installiert werden soll.
core.img is 31837 bytes. Modules are: biosdisk btrfs part_msdos search_fs_uuid
It should be possible to decrease the size of core.img to fit in the embedding area.
