Public bug reported:
This was first observed in a preseeded installation (where the installer
says it encountered an unrecoverable error and will reboot) and then
reproduced with a live cd image on a virtual machine.
Steps to reproduce:
1- Download daily image (as of 2012-07-11), i386 desktop.
2- Start a virtual machine (I used VirtualBox) with the downloaded image.
3- Select "install ubuntu".
Expected result:
- Ubiquity guiding user through installation procedure and resulting in an installed, bootable system.
Actual result:
- A dialog appears first-thing saying the installer "encountered an unrecoverable error". It gives the option to drop to a LiveCD desktop environment to report the problem.
I perused the syslog and didn't find anything relevant; also,
/var/log/installer/debug wasn't created even though I used debug-
ubiquity in the kernel command line.
This can be very easily reproduced on any system (even a VM), but please
let me know if you need me to test or try anything else.
