Title:
Update interactes badly with noninteracitve automatic updates

Status in One Hundred Paper Cuts:
  Invalid
Status in “update-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in “update-manager” source package in Karmic:
  Won't Fix

Bug description:
  Ubuntu 9.04, update-manager 1:0.111.9

I've enabled automatic installation of critical (security) updates.
This conflicts with the behavior of the update manager. The update
manager checks for new updates and shows the update dialog if there
are critical and normal updates while installing the critical updates
in the background. If you click Install in the dialog it will fail
since it can't get the lock because there is already the installation
  of the critical updates running.
