Seems like a reasonable wishlist to me, actually, although it is subject
to some space constraints so I won't make any specific promises on this.

Title:
iSCSI installation using "alternate install" CD?

Status in “debian-installer” package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
Since Ubuntu Server Edition 9.10 (I think) Ubuntu has supported
installing directly to iSCSI targets by allowing a user to log in to
one via the debian-installer... However, this functionality has never
  reached the "alternate install" CD.

You may ask "Why would you want to install Ubuntu *Desktop* to iSCSI?"
The answer is simple: Because I have a few "diskless clients" that
are too powerful to simply be used as thin clients, but have no room
for a HDD. I imaging there are more reasons for doing this as well
(centralized desktop storage comes to mind.)

It would be nice to be able to simply use the same method in the
alternate installer as you would in the server's installer.

  Bug stuff:

  Steps to reproduce:

  1. Boot to an Ubuntu alternate installer CD.

  2. Follow all steps as usual till you get to the "partitioning" step.

Notice that no option appears for "Login to iSCSI Target" as it does
  on Ubuntu Server Edition's installer.

  What is expected:

When installing Ubuntu Desktop from the alternate installation CD, you
should be able to log in to and install onto iSCSI targets just the
same as on Ubuntu Server Edition.
