Title:
Repeated crashes during clean install of XUbuntu 11.10

Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
I've been trying to create a clean install of Xubuntu 11.10 using the
desktop i386 installer. The installer has crashed every time but not
always in the same place. The machine completely froze a couple of
times while "configuring hardware" but the last time it crashed but
didn't freeze so I could send this bugreport. The last time I didn't
check "download updates" or "install third party" check boxes.

I am running xubuntu 10.10 and 11.04 on the same machine. 10.10 runs
fine but 11.04 freezes randomly. Memtest does not report any problems.
I have successfully installed 11.10 on a different machine using the
same iso file on the same external hdd.
