Title:
installing server from usb grub is installed on stick

Status in “grub” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  affects ubuntu server 10.04.3 LTS
  affects grub
  affects installation

  importance high

installing ubuntu server from USB, during install the USB stick is
mounted on sda hence the local disks start from sdb. Since grub get's
installed automatically on sda grub's boot code will land on the USB
stick whereas the local HDD's boot config remains untouched.

This bug seems similar to #565189
  (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/565189 see
also user comments there). It is probably fixed for non-server ubuntu
installations (at least it didn't occur when I tried to install those
  on similar hardware) .

p.s. It actually would IMHO be a nice idea, to include such kind of
configuration as an option, e.g. for security reasons, with a local
hdd install requiring this USB stick i.e. for authentication.
