Bug description:
  Installed Ubuntu 11.10 on clean ext4 partition, RAID0 drive with
  Windows 7 ntfs partition.  Installer prompts critical failure while
  running grub install.  Issue is also present on amd64 DVD of Linux
  Mint 12.
