I am sorry it has been so long without progress on this, but 8.10
reached end of life a long time ago.  I don't suppose you still have
this issue these days?

  installed on eeePC H1000 linux version (8+32GB SSD). For some reason
  gparted does not want to open;

  neither with synaptic nor with a command.
