I'm marking this as incomplete as I'm now running a later version of
aptitude, no-one else has added to this report in over a year and my
Ubuntu/Kubuntu version is three versions later.

  aptitude crashes with SIGABRT on exit when run as normal user in TUI

Status in “aptitude” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: aptitude

  If I start aptitude as a normal user in text interface mode and
  perform an update of packages by pressing 'u' I get asked if I wish to
  become root. If I say yes, the update takes place but if I exit
  immediately then the following text is output after the interface has
  closed:

  Ouch!  Got SIGABRT, dying..
  Aborted (core dumped)

  If I run aptitude as root or su the no such error occurs.
