[Bug 941210] Re: Ubuntu fails to boot on a 'cold' start

I have been helping Timesare debug his situation and suggested he run
this report. I would like to add that depending on how long he waits he
gets different segmentation faults for different services. Each is
different each boot. Like he said this is when cold booting.

I was wondering if maybe this was a plug-n-play bios issue changing
things around on the bios end V. what the boot is expecting.

I am in no way and expert like some of you folks are but it is strange
in deed. I have been in Linux and Ubuntu long enough to know that
debugging with community help can save a reinstall or total frustration
against Ubuntu or linux.

Title:
Ubuntu fails to boot on a 'cold' start

Status in “upstart” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
if i pause the boot, while it's in the bios, before it gets to the
linux boot, for about 2 mins, Ubuntu boots fine, and if i reboot at
some point that will be fine too. It's only from an absolute cold boot
ubuntu will fail to boot. I've tried a Mint liveDVD and that boots
fine from a cold boot. This problem started while I was running 10.0.4
64bit, then I got the same problem after fresh install (keeping /home)
  of the current 11.10 64bit. System is a HP DC7800 (core2Duo, 6GB of
RAM (I've tried switching sticks over), 1TB hitachi SATA HDD, Nvidia
  8400GS).
