As no-one replied for almost 2 years, I am assuming the problem is gone.
Therefore, I'll close this report.

Title:
Accessing printing properties for some drivers causes excessive load
on CPU
Status in “samba” package in Ubuntu:
Invalid
Bug description:
Binary package hint: samba
When accessing printing properties for some drivers (Xerox and HP
Designjet) the load on the CPU goes way up (90%). There is a latency
of 30 to 60 seconds during this time. Other drivers (Ricoh) do not
exhibit this behaviour.
This has been observed on versions of Samba <= 3.0.28 .
