  ubuntu 11.10 upgrade keyboard won't register login password.

Status in “update-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
  After upgrading to 11.10 typing the login password doesn't register
  the keyboard entries.  I can enter Ubuntu as a guest only.  I also
  have only one screen resolution available.  And the computer will not
  shut down.
