The fix here is to switch to GtkGrid, which does sensible height-for-
width geometry management.

Oneiric Desktop 20110821
When the user enters an invalid username, an error message is
displayed next to the field. When this message is displayed, empty
space is added above and below the username field changing the
geometry of the main window.
