To be honest and compensate my rant against Sony, it must be said that
the poor design is not in the cooling system itself, but in how hard is
to disassemble the laptop in order to remove the dust obstructing the
fan.

When cleaned properly it usually stays cool and quiet.

Status in “acpid” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: acpid

  Even in installer running off usb stick ubuntu would randomly shut
  down for no reason randomly

  now 9.10 is installed i have checked the logs and it is shutting down
  for "critical temperature" even though 40 seconds ago it was 50
  degrees cooler and ok

  no pattern, but seems to happen when the sensors report around 50
  degrees celcius
