Title:
  Could not install Gnome Shell, this may be caused by held packages

Status in “update-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  After update some package in Ubuntu 11.10, it has removed Gnome Shell
  and when I try to use Synaptic to reinstall Gnome shell, I got error
  message:

  Could not apply changes! Fix broken packages first.

  When i choose Fix Broken Packages:

  E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.
  E: Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by held packages.
  E: Unable to correct dependencies
  E: Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by held packages.
  E: Unable to correct dependencies

  My system is Linux ubuntu 3.0.0-15-generic.
