I can't reproduce this on an up to date Oneiric installation. Can you
reproduce it? If you can, could you please provide us with an example
file and the files /var/log/syslog, /var/log/dmesg, and
/var/log/Xorg.0.log?

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: dbus

  dbus-daemon hangs when xdg-open doesn't know the app to open the file
  with

  Scenario:
  foo.download (right mouse -> Properties -> Open With) is configured to open with xdg-open. 
  After dubble clicking on foo.download (or in terminal xdg-open foo.download) nothing will be opened. But dbus-daemon will consume about 10% CPU. 
  I think it keeps searching is some sort of infinitive loop. 
  When I change the Open With to gedit it immediatly opens the file with gedit. And the CPU usage of dbus drops.
