smbclient is trying to connect to an apple time capsule with the
  latest firmware (7.4.2) .

smbclient in Ubuntu 9.04 works correctly to the same share using the
  same parameters

smbclient compiled from source from samba.org on the same machine
works when using the path samba-3.4.2/source3/bin/smbclient works
  correctly too.
