I was asked by ikonia on  #ubuntu+1 to try a Ubuntu install on the KVM
system that I have on my CentOS system. It has the same video
corruption. This is from

Bug description:
  Bckground is corrupt (series of grey dots / lines). application
  windows for Chromium, AbiWord, Software Updater are all displayed
  correctly.

  This is using a KVM Virtual Machine (Precise & Quantal releases do not
  exhibit this behaviour)
