While it would be nice to integrate all various login/authentication
methods (e.g. any PAM modules, One Time Passwords, Kerberos, Smartcards,
Fingerprint / Biometric scanners) it is out of scope for the installer.
It's best for fprintd pam module to instead integrate with the system
settings control panel / password changing dialog.

Title:
ubuntu should detect if fingerprint reader is available
Status in “fprintd” package in Ubuntu:
Confirmed
Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu:
Won't Fix
Bug description:
Hi, I think it would be really nice to have fingerprint setup during
ubuntu instalation (step when you setup password), it is quite hard to
discover and install packages for non tech-savvy user.
Also fingerprint readers are common nowadays.
