[Bug 1088960] Re: Missing __git_ps1

Actually I was using the stock git prior to trying your ppa. When
ubuntu-bug didn't let me file a bug against "git", I decided to try your
ppa.

Waaaait a second, though. In /etc/bash.bashrc, now that I look at it
with a skeptical eye, I see:

# enable bash completion in interactive shells
#if ! shopt -oq posix; then
#  if [ -f /usr/share/bash-completion/bash_completion ]; then
#    . /usr/share/bash-completion/bash_completion
#  elif [ -f /etc/bash_completion ]; then
#    . /etc/bash_completion
#  fi
#fi

I did a stock install of kubuntu 3 days ago and haven't edited that
file. So my glib assertion above about bash completion working was based
on a misunderstanding of what /etc/bash_completion provides...I guess? I
mean when I tab on the command prompt, filenames are completed,
potential files are listed, etc...is that not one and the same thing?
How does that work given that the above is commented out?

My own ~/.bashrc is trivial; a few env variable exports, and a custom
PS1.

Title:
  Missing __git_ps1

Status in “git” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  I have been using this in my bashrc. It no longer works, as of Ubuntu
  12.10.

  if [ -f /usr/local/git/contrib/completion/git-completion.bash ]; then
    . /usr/local/git/contrib/completion/git-completion.bash
  fi
  export GIT_PS1_SHOWDIRTYSTATE=true

  export PS1="\[\033[36m\][\!][\t] \[\033[1;33m\]\u\[\033[0m\]@\h:\[\033[36m\][\w]:\[\033[0m\]\$(__git_ps1)
  ---

  I get "__git_ps1: command not found" after every prompt. (Obviously I
  will remove __git_ps1 for now from the prompt.) Please fix.
