Public bug reported:

Installing the ubuntu-12.10-desktop-i386.iso that has been imaged on a
USB thumbdrive. The system had Ubuntu 11.10 running on it successfully,
and was upgraded to 12.04 with the upgrade downloaded from the web
through the Ubuntu desktop auto/updater. This was running successfully,
and tried to upgrade to 12.10.

Have been having trying to get Ubuntu 12.10 on this system, and was
advised to do the following prior to starting the upgrade.

in a terminal window entered the following commands:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install ubiquity gparted
sudo apt-get clean

Ubuntu grinds away for awhile, and then reports the install crashed, and
generated bug report. I am filing this form from a browser that is
running on the system that was running 12.04 and the installer crash
occuring on the attempt to upgrade to 12.10.

When I try to do an install of 12.10 or 12.04, both will run a text
screen that says

Starting CPU interrupt balancing daemon
save kernel messages
Starting Crash reporting daemon

and the system hangs here
