Title:
Kubuntu 6.06 Installer: Lots of Simplified Chinese characters appear
  as black dots

Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
The font used for the Kubuntu 6.06 installer doesn't appear to have
the characters needed to display all of the selection & instructions
in Simplified Chinese. A lot of characters appear as big black dots
  instead

  e.g.
When selecting a Language at the first screen, the choice for Simplified Chinese should read:

  中文(简体)
            ^
NB: Above would only be legable if you use a Chinese font to view this.

In the Language selection list, the character above ^ is actually
shown as a big black dot.

  SOLUTION
This appears to be an issue with the Installer using the DeJanSans font. Prior to installation, I downloaded qt3-qtconfig, ran qtconfig, and applied a font substitution for DeJanSans font with "AR PL SanHeiSun Uni" font (thankfully one of the fonts Kubuntu has loaded by default). And restarted X. Seem to have solved the problem
