This indicates an installer crash. The desktop session is a "recovery" path from the installer crash. Is it at all possible for you to submit:
/var/log/syslog
/var/log/installer/dm
/var/loginstaller/debug

Or once in the desktop session to attempt to run $ ubuntu-bug ubiquity

  Lubuntu daily's CLI links dont work

Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  After selecting my language (in this case English), I selected
  "install lubuntu" from the list but it still took me to what appears
  to be a broken version of the live desktop with the link to install
  lubuntu on it, after clicking the link all is well.
