Thank you for reporting a problem in Ubuntu, to make it better.

Launching ubiquity from the terminal or with alt-f2 you can do:

     $ ubiquity --no-webcam

For us to fix this problem though, cause you please run ubiquity like
so:

    $ ubiquity --debug

Re-create the crash on the webcam page, and then submit a bug report with /var/log/syslog & /var/log/installer/debug with:

   $ ubuntu-bug ubiquity

Alternatively those files may have been preserved (if you didn't reboot
livecd after the last crash & successful installation), in that case
attaching files under /var/log/installer/* might me sufficient to fix
this problem.

** Changed in: ubiquity (Ubuntu)
       Status: New => Incomplete

Title:
  12.04 Installer crashes on photo screen

Status in “ubiquity” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  I found this bug in both the Xubuntu and Lubuntu 12.04 AMD64 installers, I assume it is also in the main Ubuntu installer.
  I am using an Asus G1S laptop, which has a built-in webcam.

  The installer crashes on the screen where it is trying to take a photo
  or let me select from an existing one. It crashes whether I just let
  it sit there, or try to do things with the controls.

  I checked, but could not find a boot option to disable this screen.

  My temporary work-around was:
  On the screen where you enter your name, user ID, etc (this is just before the photo screen), switch to a text console by hitting C-M-F2. Doing an 'rmmod uvcvideo' seems to prevent the photo screen from appearing. Type 'exit', then press C-M-F7 to return to the installer.

  After doing this, the install completed successfully.

  Might be a good idea to make some way to disable this screen in the
  installer, ask if it should be run right before you get to it, etc
  ...?

  Thanks,
  Ross
