My gut feeling here is that the fontconfig warnings are a red herring -
that's happening on quantal a lot at the moment.
So the real question is why are you at a text screen and not a GUI;
1) On the machine that won't boot, at the prompt please try apport-cli -u 1041625 if we're lucky it might add some logs to launchpad.
2) If the machine has a /var/log/lightdm please attach the logs in
there to this report.
