[Bug 1030094] Re: LVM encrypted, screen turned off after grub

Hallo Steve
the attached files are from a fresh installed system that reproduce the bug, but apport-collect was run from the unlocked system.
To unlock, simply boot a live session and on nautilus click on the disk, insert the passphrase, reboot and plymouth is now shown requesting passphrase.
During the live session I've tried to look if there was something logged but there's no syslog or kern.log inside, just few unuseful things.
The system lock down just after grub, without the possibility to have a console, only sysrq key working, ssh impossible.
Thanks
Fabio

Title:
LVM encrypted, screen turned off after grub

Status in “plymouth” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Hallo
  Testing Ubuntu server mad64 20120727:
Performing an installation of lvm encryption at the reboot the screen is switched off just after grub.
To have the system working we need to remove, from the boot line, the splash entry.
Doing so we will have the passphrase request in a black screen.
If instead we remove the vt_handoff entry the splashscreen will be shown, but the passphrase request will appear in a bad position at the center of the screen on a background purple with Ubuntu 12.10 written.
  Thanks
  Fabio
