I marked bug 886273 a duplicate of this, but I guess I'm going to make
that one the master, instead; sorry. That one is triaged, and this one
is clogged up by a pile of irrelevant messages. Thanks.

Title:
Update-manager needs help info when terminating on wrong repositories
and generally deal better with incorrect sources.list data

Status in “update-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: update-manager

My update-manager crashed saying some files where not available (i got
404ś on the site where the files supposed to be) . I filed a bug
report and the answer of one of the tech was that he doens't accept
bugs with unsupported repositories. Only then I got the message and
  deleted some of the repositories.

I wish the Update-manager told me right away that:
  - the errors where related to unsupported repositories
  - removing the unsupported repositories would be wise
  - telling me how to remove the unsupported repositories (inclusing pressing 'apply'' in Apt - which i didn't the first time. I removed them and they were gone, I wrongly thought...)
