Title:
Ubuntu 12.04 bootloader installation problem on RAID

Status in “grub2” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Trying to install Ubuntu 12.04 Desktop x64.

  PC configuration:

  MB: Asus P6T
HDD Controller: Intel ICH8R (ICH8) SATA RAID Controller
  CPU: Intel Core i7 920
  RAM: 6x2Gb DDR3
  Video: nVidia geForce 250 512Mb

  HDD: 2x320Gb as RAID0
Partitions: first: ext4, second: ntfs. No swap partition.

  Steps to repeat:
  1. Have similar RAID configuration (I guess any MB-powered RAID0 installation will do the thing)
  2. Try to make a fresh install of Ubuntu 12.04

I've chosen ext4 as mount point for / during installaton. Checked
  "format" checkbox for it.

  What happens:
At the end of the installation creation of bootloader failed for root partition (something like /dev/mapper/*******Volume0). After I've presed Ok it offered me to chose another partition. I tried to chose both of /dev/mapper/*******Volume0p1 (there were two of them and two /dev/mapper/*******Volume0p2) with same result. During that process another dialog popped up. It was reporting that installation went fine and system is ready to use. After I've pressed "reboot" button I've got unbootable PC. Had to restore the bootloader manually using 11.10 live flash. After that windows could boot successfully, but fresh installation of 12.04 showed some graphical trash at the screen and completely hanged right after hitting it's grub entry.

  What should happen:
Like 11.10 it should offer me only three devices: root one, first partition(ext4) and second partition(ntfs) but not six, and it must install the bootlodaer and boot without any problems.
