  grub won't install for a fresh 12.04 computer.  I don't know why.

Bug description:
  Boot computer w/ thumbdrive containing 12.04 amd64.  Computer now has
  11.10 amd64 with separate partiitions for / and /home.  Want to do
  fresh install of 12.04 amd64.  Grub won't install, saying it cannot
  find device.
