Well, my attempt to re-open this issue, bug 982767, was marked invalid.
But, I had a brief email talk with Release Manager Kate Stewart, since
she had reviewed this bug a year ago, in comment #2. To summarize,
there may not be time left to really look into this before the imminent
release. Things are nearly frozen. But hopefully these crashes can be
addressed before long.
(And fair enough; that's how time-based releases have to go. My words,
not Kate's.) Thanks.
