Title:
LUKS init-script asks for same password twice

Status in “cryptsetup” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: cryptsetup

  --[ Ubuntu release ]--
  Description: Ubuntu 8.04
  Release: 8.04

  --[ version of package ]--
  2:1.0.5-2ubuntu12

  --[ Expected to happen ]--
When booting my laptop ubuntu is to ask the luks passwords of each and every file system (2 in my case) just once inside of usplash and hide all the nastiness it involves

  --[ What happened instead ]--
When I boot my laptop it asks for the password of the root file system in usplash and then switches back to a console.

There it asks for the password of the swap device. luksopen works like
a charm and I get a message saying something allong the lines of
"/dev/sda5 contains data - cryptsetup failed".

Then it asks for the password of the swap device again. cryptsetup
does its thing again, gives the same complaint and the machine boots
  perfectly with swap enabled.

Given the fact that this is a laptop, I have to boot daily. You can
understand this is becoming somewhat of a nuisance.

I would like to give you the full message(s) of what ever happens in
boot. However /var/log/boot is empty (e.g.: It states "(Nothing has
been logged yet.)") and scrolling through the giant list of boot
messages on TTY8 is impossible. It will no longer adhere to the shift-
  pg up command.

  --[ Request ]--
  Could you please:
  a) Tell me how to turn on boot logging so that I can supply a more detailed and complete description of this bug
  b) Start investigating the problem.

  Many thanks in advance,
  Hartog de Mik

PS: Would it not be nice to make the 'please include'-s below separate fields on the bug report?
