The workaround is to uninstall the 'skype' package and install the
'skype:i386' from the partner archive.
The skype package I had was 2.2.035, which I believe came from the Natty
partner archive or maybe direct from Skype. This is the same version
that is in the Oneiric partner archive.
Should upgrade-manager handle this transition?

Per Bug #830440 , a working Skype installation can stop working when
you upgrade to Oneiric. I think this only affects 64bit installations.
