Title:
Modal dialogue from update-manager does not appear in unity's spread,
leading to confusion
Status in Unity:
Confirmed
Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
Confirmed
Status in “update-manager” package in Ubuntu:
Confirmed
Bug description:
Steps to reproduce:
- Open update-manager at a point in time such that you get the "Not all updates can be installed" dialogue (surely there is a way to trigger this by hand, and there must be a different application that exhibits the same behaviour)
- Move this modal dialogue to a different desktop
- Return to the desktop where update-manager's main window is
- Try to interact with the window - it will ignore clicks (as it should) [1]
- Eventually realize that there are two arrows next to the update-manager icon in unity's launcher, so click on the icon
- Spread mode is triggered, but only the main window appears [2]
What should happen instead:
- Spread mode is triggered and both the main window and the modal dialogue are shown
Notes:
[1]: this is the real problem here, but this will be fixed with the introduction of the modal dialog plugin in oneiric+1
[2]: spread is not triggered when there is only one (regular) window of an application; in this case it looks like it's trying to do the right thing by allowing spread in the first place, but then it fails at actually displaying the window
