Thanks for reporting this separately at first, which was the right thing
to do; however, this does have the same cause as bug 856088, so I'll
mark it as a duplicate.

Title:
Expert install defaults to invalid domain name

Status in “netcfg” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Running the expert install with D-I, it gives a numeric, IP address
looking entry as the recommended domain name. The installer should not
allow, let alone recommend, invalid domain names. See attached
  screenshot.
