Title:
after installing codes, totem reports incorrectly that the plugins did
  not provide the required features

Status in “gnome-codec-install” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I ran totem on a quicktime file (see bug #851481, comment #5 for the
file), and totem reported it needed to install gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg
  and gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad (for the mpeg4-decoder and h264-decoder
codecs and the "quicktime demuxer"). It successfully installed them
but afterwards said that the plugins did not provide the required
  functionality.

However, closing totem and trying again worked, so the plugins *did*
provide the requested functionality. I would have expected it would
  have worked immediately.
