Marking as fix release as the current release of friendly-recovery (in
Oneiric) always starts the recovery menu before anything else.

** Changed in: friendly-recovery (Ubuntu)
       Status: New => Fix Released

Title:
  "Rescue Mode" broken by X Update

Status in “friendly-recovery” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  With a recent update to X, KDM as window manager crashes upon boot
  hence rendering the system dead. See bug #491483.

  What is worse is that at least for certain kinds of intel graphic
  chips this also (!) breaks the rescue mode available via grub2. I. e.
  upon booting in single user mode, the system should dump the user into
  a console. What happens is "system freeze". There is no rescue
  console.

  Imho this is a serious problem. No X related problem should have any
  (!) influence on the text console and single user mode.
