  1. Open System Settings > Appearance.
  2. If bug 844807 has not been fixed, choose "High contrast inverse large". If it has been fixed, choose "High contrast inverse".
  3. Navigate to a software item screen. <http://apt.ubuntu.com/p/vlc>

  What you see: White text on a light grey background.
  What you should see: White text on a dark blue background. (See the help viewer, for example.)

  It may save time to fix bug 845005 at the same time as this bug.
