Ubuntu 8.04 reached its End Of Life in May of this year so we no longer provide updates for it.  You will probably have to do a fresh install of the latest stable release.  Thanks for reporting though, and feel free to do so again in the future.  Closing.

Bug description:
  I did'nt take the time to update the system for a long time. 1st. I
  tried to change to Ubuntu version 10, but problems with the connection
  to internet caused it to fail. After I tried to update Ubuntu 8, and
  then when the download finished something wrong happened. May be
  because I didn't choose which files download.
