Confirmed, software-properties is not installed when using alternate
ISO, I'll have a look at it.

Bug description:
  I'm testing the Beta 2 alternate candidate - 20110919-i386.

  Not sure if this is a d-i problem or something to do with gtk but look
  at posts #16 thru 19 in bug 835961. The screenshots in #17 and 18
  pretty much tell the story.

  To summarize, after installation software sources UI can't be viewed
  from the update manager, and viewing it from synaptic displays a
  "list" as shown in post #17 of bug 835961.
