Title:
alternate installer: grub2 can't be installed on a partition

Status in “grub-installer” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Trying to install grub on a partition in oneiric beta1 installer
  fails.

Install log windows shows this error:
/usr/bin/grub-setup: info: opening the core image '/boot/grub/core.img'

And in the installer there is a error message which is fatal and
causes bootloader installation step to fail.

This can be worked around by changing to installer shell by ctrl+alt+F2 then
  # chroot /target /bin/bash
  # grub-install /dev/sdxy
  # update-grub

and then switching back to the installer by ctrl+alt+f1 and selecting
  "continue without bootloader"
