I checked this again after updating my system. This no longer is an
issue. I can start Software Center from the Unity Launcher.

  Expected Outcome: Clicking on the Software Center launcher in the Unity Launcher should start the Software Center.
  Actual Outcome: Whenever I click on the Software Center launcher in the Unity Launcher, it just blinks and does not start. The only way to start the Software Center is via the terminal. The output of a terminal run is:
