Title:
qcommit occasionally cripples system with excessive workload
Status in “bzr” package in Ubuntu:
New
Bug description:
When I run bzr qcommit (or click the Commit button in bzr-explorer),
Ubuntu becomes so overworked that it takes seconds to respond to the
caps lock key and it is completely impossible to interact with the
GUI.
Because the slowdown results in everything being unworkably slow, it
has been tricky to get much information. I have seen kswapd jump to
the 132% CPU according to top (which happened to be running in a tty I
switched to), and I hooked up a script to trigger the problem and run
apport-cli after a few seconds. The result of that is being attached
here. Hopefully it's of some use. If you need more information, please
let me know what else I could do to probe this.
This particular apport data was gathered from the bzr process after
running qcommit on an unchanged lp:ubiquity-slideshow-ubuntu. It took
two tries to actually trigger the problem. On the first try, qcommit
worked as it is supposed to. On the second try it DoSed my system
before showing a GUI, and it never seemed to recover even after
running killall -9 bzr. (Killing the X server was enough, though).
