  Oneiric alternate ISOs fail to install -- apt-cdrom fails with general
  protection

Bug description:
  From the Jenkins logs. Alternate ISOs are failing to install since
  Sept 10th. Installation proceeds normally, apt-cdrom is hit with a GP
  and, a few moments later apt-get also dies with a GP. Eventually
  installation fails due to no kernels found.
