Also after lightdm crash or stop all you're left with is this white fading splash screen. There is no way to access the console.
"update-rc.d plymouth-splash remove -f" fixes this but I seriously doubt this should be the way to do it.
PS. I hope this is not some new feature that I'm reporting here on :)
