Title:
update-manager always wants to uninstall xscreensaver

Status in “update-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: update-manager

It's not fun to use synaptic because update-manager always wants to
remove xcreensaver which I use because its 'xscreensaver-command'
executable is useful for watching various changes that occur with
screensaver within a script which adjusts my Acer AL1917 monitor's
display based on the changes. The monitor is an odd monitor that
itself tries to adjust its display in several instances and leaves the
display uncentered, thus the need for the script. the gnome-
screensaver-command does not allow me to watch the changes to the
  screensaver.

Please have update-manager not always want to remove xscreensaver.
