I was not able to reproduce this with the current apt 0.8.16~exp5ubuntu6
in Oneiric. Please let us know if the problem has been fixed for you
too.

Title:
  Building package isn't resolved correctly

Status in “apt” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: apt

I'm using Ubuntu 11.10 dev and apt 0.8.14.1ubuntu7. I wanted to use
the command "apt-get build-dep gcc" and got the information that the
source package gcc-defaults will be used instead of gcc. But I got in
this case the error that version 1.104ubuntu1 of gcc couldn't be
  found.

But if I resolve the package manually with "apt-get build-dep gcc-
defaults" all is working fine. It seems that not every package has
this problem. For example libgl1-mesa-glx (resolved to mesa) is
  working fine.
