Marking this as Fix Released, as update-manager now uses the aptdaemon backend by default, so it will not display this dialog in case of broken packages. Feel free to reopen though, if you still experience this problem.

Title:
broken packages message is confusing
Status in Update Manager:
Invalid
Status in “update-manager” package in Ubuntu:
Fix Released
Bug description:
Doing a normal upgrade on gutsy, was told that there were 11 broken
packages and that I should use the 'broken filter' to find them. This
is very confusing as there is no broken filter on update manager
(presumably it is referring to synaptic package manager).
